We Are Predestined/Called – 1

No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws them, and I will raise them up at the last day … And you also are among those … who are called to belong to Jesus Christ … called to be his holy people, together with all those everywhere who call on the name of our Lord Jesus Christ—their Lord and ours … God is faithful, who has called you into fellowship with his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.

And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters. And those he predestined, he also called; those he called, he also justified; those he justified, he also glorified.

In love he predestined us for adoption to sonship through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and will—to the praise of his glorious grace, which he has freely given us in the One he loves. … See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are!

He called you to this through our gospel, that you might share in the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ. … So, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.

I know in the Bible , Matthew 18:11 says ” For the Son of Man has come to save that which is lost.” Also, in 2Peter 3:9 “He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish.”
Your post this morning on we are predestined has always been confusing to me. It makes it sound like God chooses who He wants to be saved. I know that is not so, because of the above verses. I would like to hear your response on this topic.
    Thanks.

    Hi Cynthia,

The mission of “Morning Glory, Evening Grace” is not for me to give you my word, or my thoughts, or my response … but rather, my mission is to lay out for you, the reader, what God has to say about whatever the issue might be.

Your job, then, is to compare the Scriptures I’ve laid out, and then (1) view them against the entire counsel of God’s will (from which they are drawn), as well as (2) utilize the counsel of wise, mature Christians (whether our pastor, a sermon, a book, a commentary, a concordance, etc.), and then, and most importantly, (3) the input of God’s Holy Spirit as He uses His Word and His people to teach, guide, and lead you.

    Blessings in the journey!

    Walt
