But I tell you that people will have to give account on the day of judgment for every empty word they have spoken. For by your words you will be acquitted, and by your words you will be condemned.
I tell you that anyone who is angry with a brother or sister will be subject to judgment. … Again, anyone who says to a brother or sister, “Raca,” is answerable to the Sanhedrin. And anyone who says, “You fool!” will be in danger of the fire of hell.
Avoid godless chatter, because those who indulge in it will become more and more ungodly. Their teaching will spread like gangrene.
See, the Lord is coming with thousands upon thousands of his holy ones to judge everyone, and to convict all the ungodly of all the … defiant words ungodly sinners have spoken against him. These people are grumblers and faultfinders; they follow their own evil desires; they boast about themselves and flatter others for their own advantage.
The Lord knows how to … hold the unrighteous for punishment on the day of judgment. This is especially true of those who follow the corrupt desire of the flesh and despise authority … these people blaspheme in matters they do not understand … They will be paid back with harm for the harm they have done. … These people are springs without water and mists driven by a storm. Blackest darkness is reserved for them. For they mouth empty, boastful words … They promise freedom, while they themselves are slaves of depravity—Of them the proverbs are true: “A dog returns to its vomit,” and, A sow that is washed returns to her wallowing in the mud.”
But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have become convinced of, because you know those from whom you learned it, and how from infancy you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus.
