He drove the man out

Get rid of that slave woman and her son. … Abraham sent her off with the boy. She went on her way and wandered. … Isaac sent Jacob on his way. … Though my father and mother forsake me, the Lord will receive me. … Praise be to God, who has not rejected my prayer or withheld his love from me!

When Joseph came to his brothers, they stripped him of his robe—the ornate robe he was wearing … and they took him and threw him into the cistern. The cistern was empty; there was no water in it. … He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire; he set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand. … You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good.

You are not grumbling against us, but against the Lord. … It is not you they have rejected, but they have rejected Me. … The stone the builders rejected has become the cornerstone; the Lord has done this, and it is marvelous in our eyes. … As you come to him, the living Stone—rejected by humans but chosen by God and precious to him. … Therefore, remember that you were separate from Christ, excluded from citizenship in Israel and foreigners to the covenants of the promise, without hope and without God in the world. But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far away have been brought near by the blood of Christ. … To the praise of his glorious grace, which he has freely given us in the One he loves.
