Hand Washing

What’s the difference between six and twenty seconds? A LOT when it comes to spreading germs.

The Center for Disease Control says we need to wash our hands for twenty seconds to kill infection-causing germs. But researchers found most people do it for only six—and that’s after using the restroom. Worse yet, many didn’t use soap and up to fifteen percent didn’t wash at all.

I can’t tell you how many colds, infections and illness—many serious—could be prevented if all of us simply washed our hands throughout the day, for the recommended time.

If you have kids, teach them to use soap and sing “Happy Birthday” twice before they rinse. That’s the best advice, hands down.
