God’s Will

Your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. … Yet not as I will, but as you will. … Praise the Lord, you his servants who do his will.

For I have come down from heaven not to do my will but to do the will of him who sent me. … I desire to do your will, my God; your law is within my heart. … My Father, if it is not possible for this cup to be taken away unless I drink it, may your will be done.

Not everyone who says to me, “Lord, Lord,” will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. … For it is not those who hear the law who are righteous in God’s sight, but it is those who obey the law who will be declared righteous. … Now that you know these things, you will be blessed if you do them. … If anyone, then, knows the good they ought to do and doesn’t do it, it is sin for them. … Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and obey it.

Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. … Whoever looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues in it—not forgetting what they have heard, but doing it—they will be blessed in what they do.

Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will. … Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord’s will is.

Great words, Walt. I read a neat satement from Oswald Chambers this week that helps me define my responsibilities toward God’s will. “The direction of duty lies not in doing stuff for God but in doing what God tells us to do.”
    Thanks for focusing my day.

As C.S. Lewis once said, “There are two kinds of people: those who say to God, ‘Thy will be done,’ and those to whom God says, ‘All right, then, have it your way.’ ”

Or, as Corrie Ten Boom wrote in The Hiding Place, “The center of (God’s) will is our only safety — let us pray that we may always know it!”

But, praise to the Father for so clearly showing us His will, in His Word, that via His Spirit and our trust, obedience, and submission, He may bear His fruit in and through us each day.

      Amen.
