Fish even in moderate amounts may help brain health

Fish, even in moderate amounts, may help stave off vascular disease in the brain in older adults, a recent study suggests.

HealthDay reports research indicates that “fish, even in moderate amounts, helps stave off vascular disease that may ultimately lead to dementia.”

In a brain scan study “conducted among more than 1,600 men and women over 65 years old,” none of whom “had a prior history of dementia, stroke or heart disease,” researchers found that “two or more servings of fish per week may protect the brain against vascular lesions, before obvious signs of dementia appear,” but only “among seniors younger than 75.”

The findings were published in Neurology.
