Everyone who sins breaks the law; in fact, sin is lawlessness

The Lord God commanded the man, “You must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat from it you will certainly die.” … When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it. She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it. … Then he died.

For the wages of sin is death. … All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. … If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. … Sin so grievous.

I am too ashamed and disgraced, my God, to lift up my face to you, because our sins are higher than our heads and our guilt has reached to the heavens. From the days of our ancestors until now, our guilt has been great. … We have sinned and done wrong. We have been wicked and have rebelled; we have turned away from your commands and laws. … Godly sorrow brings repentance that leads to salvation and leaves no regret. … If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. …  I tell you that in the same way there will be more rejoicing in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who do not need to repent. … In the same way, I tell you, there is rejoicing in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents.
