Easter Week 5: Easter Prophecies Fulfilled – 3

My mouth is dried up like a potsherd, and my tongue sticks to the roof of my mouth. … Later, knowing that everything had now been finished, and so that Scripture would be fulfilled, Jesus said, “I am thirsty.”

They put gall in my food and gave me vinegar for my thirst. … A jar of wine vinegar was there, so they soaked a sponge in it, put the sponge on a stalk of the hyssop plant, and lifted it to Jesus’ lips.

He protects all his bones, not one of them will be broken. … The soldiers therefore came and broke the legs of the first man who had been crucified with Jesus, and then those of the other. But when they came to Jesus and found that he was already dead, they did not break his legs.

He was assigned a grave with the wicked, and with the rich in his death, though he had done no violence, nor was any deceit in his mouth. … A rich man from Arimathea, named Joseph, … asked for Jesus’ body, and Pilate ordered that it be given to him. Joseph took the body … and placed it in his own new tomb that he had cut out of the rock. He rolled a big stone in front of the entrance to the tomb and went away.

On the third day he will restore us, that we may live in his presence. … Jesus began to explain to his disciples that he must go to Jerusalem and suffer many things at the hands of the elders, the chief priests and the teachers of the law, and that he must be killed and on the third day be raised to life. … He is not here; he has risen! Remember how he told you, while he was still with you in Galilee: “The Son of Man must be delivered over to the hands of sinners, be crucified and on the third day be raised again.”
