Easter Week 4: Easter Prophecies Fulfilled – 2

False witnesses rise up against me, spouting malicious accusations. … Then some stood up and gave false testimony against him.

He was oppressed and afflicted, yet he did not open his mouth; h was led like a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before its shearers is silent, so he did not open his mouth. … Then the high priest stood up and said to Jesus, “Are you not going to answer? What is this testimony that these men are bringing against you?” But Jesus remained silent.

I offered my back to those who beat me, my cheeks to those who pulled out my beard; I did not hide my face from mocking and spitting. … Then some began to spit at him; they blindfolded him, struck him with their fists, and said, “Prophesy!” And the guards took him and beat him.

A pack of villains encircles me; they pierce[a] my hands and my feet. … Carrying his own cross, he went out to the place of the Skull (which in Aramaic is called Golgotha). There they crucified him.

He poured out his life unto death, and was numbered with the transgressors. For he bore the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors. … They crucified two rebels with him, one on his right and one on his left.

They divide my clothes among them and cast lots for my garment. … When the soldiers crucified Jesus, they took his clothes, dividing them into four shares, one for each of them, with the undergarment remaining. This garment was seamless, woven in one piece from top to bottom. “Let’s not tear it,” they said to one another. “Let’s decide by lot who will get it.”
