Butterbur for migraine headaches?

“Yes, sir,” and “Yes, ma’am.” Butterbur is now recommended by the 2012 American Academy of Neurology migraine prevention guidelines.

Clinical research shows that a specific butterbur extract standardized to 15% petasin and isopetasin (Petadolex) can reduce the frequency, intensity, and duration of migraine headache. It seems to reduce the frequency of migraines by about half. And, ddoses of at least 75 mg twice daily seem to be necessary for significant benefit.

The guidelines also list riboflavin, feverfew, coenzyme Q10, and magnesium as treatment options to consider for some patients.
