Dr. Walt interviewed by Dr. James Dobson yesterday and today

One of the most difficult radio interviews that my family or I have ever done was when Dr. James Dobson interviewed us a few years ago about an incident of sexual abuse that happened in our family in the early 1980’s.

As a family, we chose to resurrect and discuss publicly the terrible events of the abuse about a decade ago. Also, with the insistence of Kate and Scott, and the support of Barb and the publisher, Zondervan, I wrote about the events in the last of my Bryson City books, Bryson City Secrets.

When Focus on the Family first aired the in interviews, several years ago, the outpouring of calls and letters from around the globe was overwhelming. The program was one of the top three that FOTF aired that and the next year.

Dr. Dobson asked us for permission to re-air the two-day program on his new radio program, Family Talk. We were pleased to do this and we hope you’ll take the time to listen in. Here’s a brief description of today’s and tomorrow’s programs:

YESTERDAY’s BROADCAST (Wednesday, October 10) can be heard here: What would be your reaction if you found out that your child had been sexually abused by someone very close to you? Hear the story of Dr. Walt and Barb Larimore and how they used their painful family tragedy for God’s glory.

TODAY’S BROADCAST (Thursday, October 11) can be heard here: Are you struggling to find healing from a painful secret that you’ve kept hidden? The Larimore family will share how they found true restoration and forgiveness after abuse.

I heard your family’s interview on the radio yesterday with Dr. Dobson. Thank you for your courage to expose this painful experience so that others may find healing and realize they are not the only ones who are struggling with similar issues. Blessings to your family. Kate sounds so sweet. I’d love to meet you some day. I was introduced to your books through our book club reading one of your Bryson City books. I enjoyed it so much I bought all three of them. One of my favorite parts is when you told about the angels ministering to you and the young boy who was very ill. That really gave me goosebumps –knowing that God cares so much for us.

LaBetha, your feedback is an affirmation, encouragement, and blessing. Thanks so much! BTW, I have two new historical novels out about the Smoky Mountain wilderness in the 1920’s. They’re titled “Hazel Creek” and “Sugar Fork.” Hope you enjoy them.
