Monday Memo – A Publishing Milestone (1000)

Those of you who write will understand the import of this milestone. This month my 1000th publication saw the light of day.

It was a small news item I wrote with my long-time friend, Reg Finger, MD, MPH: “CDC Proposed Expanded HCV Screening.” Vaccine News You Can Use. Colorado Family Physician. 2nd Quarter, 2020(Spring);63:26.

  • My first publication was in 1977: Larimore WL. “Friedman curves in undergraduate obstetrical education (Research Paper).” Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Louisiana State University School of Medicine, 1977.
  • My second was in 1984: Larimore WL. “Encounters of a poisonous kind.” Nantahala Outdoor Center Newsletter, Fall/Winter, 1984:13.
  • 2004 was my “peak year,” with 127 publications.

I’ve been honored to have written or co-written thirty-three books (that have sold over 750,000 copies, including several best-sellers (with four more books in various stages of writing), thirty medical textbook chapters (on a wide variety of topics), and a half-dozen book Forewords.

I’ve been blessed to have had books garner a number of national awards, including three Gold Medallion Award nominations, three Silver Medallion Awards, a Retailer’s Choice Award, and a Book of the Year Award from ECPA (Evangelical Christian Publishers Association).

But my main hope is that God was glorified via these various publications – and that they fulfilled Jesus’ command in Matthew 5:16, “Let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”

    Dear Doc Walt,

Solomon wrote in Proverbs 25:2 “It is the glory of God to conceal a matter, But the glory of kings is to search out a matter.”

Doc, you are the son of the King and have glorified God beautifully through your faithful exploration, discovery and explanation of the wonderful matters that God hid throughout creation! Thank you for sharing these incredible mysteries with us!
