1) WWII book awarded a Silver Medal by the Military Writers Society of America

Barb and I traveled to New Orleans to attend the Military Writers Society of America (MWSA) book awards ceremony on Saturday, August 27, at the Higgins Hotel (just across the street from and the official hotel for the National WWII Museum.

Barb and I found Dad’s memorial paver just outside the museum. My brothers and I had it placed there over 15 years ago, just after Pop passed away.

We’re delighted to announce that my and Mike Yorkey’s WWII book, At First Light, was awarded a coveted Silver Medal in the “Memoir/Biography” category.

The MWSA’s wonderful review of the book is posted here. Of all the categories, this was by far the most competitive. There were 14 nominees vying for Gold, Silver, or Bronze Medals.

2) A Major Review of my WWII book in Army Magazine

On Wednesday, July 20, 2022, AUSA published a major review of At First Light in Army Magazine (Vol. 72, No. 8, August 2022).

The review appeared in their August 2022 Book Reviews section that is written by AUSA Staff and was titled, “SON WRITES OF HIS FATHER’S TRIAL BY FIRE.”

The author, Col. Cole Kingseed, U.S. Army retired, is a former professor of history at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point and holds a doctorate in history from Ohio State University. You can read the entire review here, but here is his wonderful conclusion:

At First Light is a riveting story that rivals Laura Hillenbrand’s Unbroken: A World War II Story of Survival, Resilience, and Redemption. We are in Walt Larimore and Yorkey’s debt for making Philip Larimore’s story accessible to the American public.

This amazing endorsement gave me misty eyes and chill bumps! I’m so grateful Dad’s stories and the “Forgotten Front” are being recognized and remembered.

This is especially true since the magazine circulation is approximately 60,000, along with 99,221 people who like their Facebook page, 5,308 Instagram followers, and 21.2K Twitter followers.

You can order the book or learn more about the book here. Feel free to share this with family, friends, colleagues, and other influencers. And thanks so much for your ongoing support of At First Light.

3) At First Light well-received by “regular” readers

I’m delighted that the book has received over 98% of 5-star ratings on Amazon (72 ratings), Barnes & Noble (32), GoodReads (45), Walmart (27), and Target (24).

If you’ve read the book and would like to know how to leave a short review on these sites, drop me an email at waltlarimore@aol.com.
