A study presented at the Alzheimer’s Association International Conference reported that “Total sugar intake may affect cognitive function over time, with higher amounts potentially increasing the risk for Alzheimer’s disease.” The researchers analyzing “data of 837 participants of the Rush Memory and Aging Project to assess the association between sugar intake and cognition.”
The study revealed that the more sugars a person ingested, the worse their cognition, memory, and perceptual speed.
The researchers concluded that “Total sugar intake may affect cognitive function over time, with higher amounts potentially increasing the risk for Alzheimer’s disease.”
We know from past studies that the risk for cognitive impairment can be reduced by half by closely following a Mediterranean-style diet that is lower in added sugars.
