Do not treat prophecies with contempt

We have the word of the prophets made more certain, and you will do well to pay attention to it, as to a light shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts.

Above all, you must understand that no prophecy of Scripture came about by the prophet’s own interpretation. For prophecy never had its origin in the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.

But everyone who prophesies speaks to men for their strengthening, encouragement and comfort. … He who prophesies edifies the church.

I would … rather have you prophesy. He who prophesies is greater … so that the church may be edified.

Prophecy … is for believers, not for unbelievers. So if the whole church comes together and … if an unbeliever … comes in while everybody is prophesying, he will be convinced by all that he is a sinner and will be judged by all, and the secrets of his heart will be laid bare. So he will fall down and worship God, exclaiming, “God is really among you!”
