Easter Week – 19: Saturday Before Easter – Darkness 1

I looked at the earth, and it was formless and empty; and at the heavens, and their light was gone.

I form the light and create darkness, I bring prosperity and create disaster; I, the LORD, do all these things.

He sent darkness and made the land dark—for had they not rebelled against his words? … darkness came over the whole land. … Then they will look toward the earth and see only distress and darkness and fearful gloom, and they will be thrust into utter darkness. … Therefore the earth will mourn and the heavens above grow dark.

You hope for light, but he will turn it to thick darkness and change it to deep gloom. … He has driven me away and made me walk in darkness rather than light. … A day of darkness and gloom, a day of clouds and blackness … such as never was of old nor ever will be in ages to come.

Woe to you who long for the day of the LORD! Why do you long for the day of the LORD? That day will be darkness, not light … Will not the day of the LORD be darkness, not light—pitch-dark, without a ray of brightness?

For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.
