Gifts of God – 2

Now we know that if the earthly tent we live in is destroyed, we have a building from God, an eternal house in heaven, not built by human hands. Meanwhile we groan, longing to be clothed with our heavenly dwelling, because when we are clothed, we will not be found naked.

For while we are in this tent, we groan and are burdened, because we do not wish to be unclothed but to be clothed with our heavenly dwelling, so that what is mortal may be swallowed up by life. Now it is God who has made us for this very purpose and has given us the Spirit as a deposit, guaranteeing what is to come.

Yes, and I will continue to rejoice, for I know that through your prayers and the help given by the Spirit of Jesus Christ, what has happened to me will turn out for my deliverance.

You became imitators of us and of the Lord; in spite of severe suffering, you welcomed the message with the joy given by the Holy Spirit.

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.

We are witnesses of these things, and so is the Holy Spirit, whom God has given to those who obey him.

We have not received the spirit of the world but the Spirit who is from God, that we may understand what God has freely given us.

I am reading, studying and enjoying every segment.

What is the second reference – “Pi 1:18-19”?

    FBB

    • Fred, thanks for the feedback. It is an encouragement and a blessing!

To find out what the abbreviation for a reference means, you have three choices: (1) double click on the reference and the entire verse (or the verses) will pop up on a new window, (2) look at the “categories” listed at the bottom of the post, as all of the books used for the particular devotion will be listed, and/or (3) click the “abbreviations” (or the “OT” tab, for the “Old Testament,” or the “NT” tab, for the “New Testament”) tab at the top of the page and all of the abbreviations can be seen. If you click on the “abbreviations” page, you’ll see the logic for each “two letter” abbreviation.

      Or, just ask! 🙂

      “Pi 1:18-19” – Philippians, Chapter 1, verses 18-19.

Hope you and your beautiful bride had a joyous Christmas and pray for you both a blessed New Year.

Your reply has helped significantly. I share with you that it was not intuitive to me to go to the top of the page to see the various helpful tabs. I therefore had never read or appreciated the introduction. I found it to be extremely insightful and worthwhile. As I previously mentioned, I so appreciate your efforts. I especially love the spiritual connection with you twice daily.

    • It’s mutual. Even though I’ve been working on these devotionals for nearly a decade, reading and meditating on them twice each day has revitalized my spiritual life the last couple of days. For “all Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness.” (2Ti 3:16) And, “the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.” (He 4:12) I love it more than I can say. And, I love you, also, my brother.
