Even when I am old and gray … They will still bear fruit in old age, they will stay fresh and green, proclaiming, “The Lord is upright; he is my Rock, and there is no wickedness in him.
Even to your old age and gray hairs I am he, I am he who will sustain you. I have made you and I will carry you; I will sustain you and I will rescue you. … The blameless spend their days under the Lord’s care, and their inheritance will endure forever. … Love the Lord your God, listen to his voice, and hold fast to him. For the Lord is your life, and he will give you many years in the land.
Since my youth, God, you have taught me, and to this day I declare your marvelous deeds. Even when I am old and gray, do not forsake me, my God, till I declare your power to the next generation, your mighty acts to all who are to come. … For I am already being poured out like a drink offering, and the time for my departure is near. I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day—and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing.
My only aim is to finish the race and complete the task the Lord Jesus has given me—the task of testifying to the good news of God’s grace. … Even when I am old and gray, do not forsake me, my God, till I declare your power to the next generation, your mighty acts to all who are to come. … Surely your goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.
