Judging

For the ear tests words as the tongue tastes food.

Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world. … Stop judging by mere appearances, but instead judge correctly. … The Lord does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart. … I speak to sensible people; judge for yourselves what I say. … Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom through psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts.

Whoever has ears, let them hear what the Spirit says. … The person with the Spirit makes judgments about all things.

“Consider carefully what you hear,” he continued. “With the measure you use, it will be measured to you—and even more.” … For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you. … I know your deeds, that you have tested those who claim to be apostles but are not, and have found them false. … Test them all; hold on to what is good.

The gatekeeper opens the gate for him, and the sheep listen to his voice. He calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. … But they will never follow a stranger; in fact, they will run away from him because they do not recognize a stranger’s voice.
