Temptation

Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil.

During the days of Jesus’ life on earth, he offered up prayers and petitions with fervent cries and tears to the one who could save him from death, and he was heard because of his reverent submission. Son though he was, he learned obedience from what he suffered. … For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet he did not sin. … Because he himself suffered when he was tempted, he is able to help those who are being tempted.

Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. … When tempted, no one should say, “God is tempting me.” For God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does he tempt anyone; but each person is tempted when they are dragged away by their own evil desire and enticed. … But watch yourselves, or you also may be tempted. … Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.

No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it. … The Lord knows how to rescue the godly from trials. … He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.
