Masters (Employers)

Masters, provide your slaves with what is right and fair, because you know that you also have a Master in heaven.

Now to the one who works, wages are not credited as a gift but as an obligation. … Look! The wages you failed to pay the workers who mowed your fields are crying out against you. The cries of the harvesters have reached the ears of the Lord Almighty. … “I will be quick to testify against those who defraud laborers of their wages,” says the Lord Almighty. … For Scripture says, “Do not muzzle an ox while it is treading out the grain,” and “The worker deserves his wages.” … Woe to him who builds his palace by unrighteousness, his upper rooms by injustice, making his own people work for nothing, not paying them for their labor. … Do not hold back the wages of a hired worker overnight. … Do not take advantage of a hired worker who is poor and needy … Pay them their wages each day before sunset, because they are poor and are counting on it. Otherwise they may cry to the Lord against you, and you will be guilty of sin.

And masters, treat your slaves in the same way, … wholeheartedly, as if you were serving the Lord, not people. … Do not threaten them, since you know that he who is both their Master and yours is in heaven, and there is no favoritism with him.

The seventh day is a sabbath to the Lord your God. On it you shall not do any work, neither you, … nor your male or female servant … so that your male and female servants may rest, as you do.
