The Lord is … 8

Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.

And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

But the Lord is faithful, and he will strengthen you and protect you from the evil one … So we say with confidence, “The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. What can human beings do to me?”

The Lord is full of compassion and mercy.

Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation, now that you have tasted that the Lord is good.

For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous and his ears are attentive to their prayer, but the face of the Lord is against those who do evil.

But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day. The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.

Enoch, the seventh from Adam, prophesied about them: “See, the Lord is coming with thousands upon thousands of his holy ones to judge everyone, and to convict all the ungodly of all the ungodly acts they have done in an ungodly way, and of all the defiant words ungodly sinners have spoken against him.”

Pi 4:5-7, 2Th 3:3, He 13:6, Ja 5:11, 1Pe 2:2-3, 1Pe 3:12, 2Pe 3:8-9, Ju 1:14-15

Thank you for this wonderful devotional. It is a great blessing to me twice a day.
Please allow me to suggest that you use the first three letters of each book of Scripture instead of just two. In today’s reading you listed Pi 4:5-7 as the first verse. That is Philippians, but why Pi? If you had Phi it would be less confusing, and it would help people who are not too familiar with the Bible to find the verse more easily. Thank you,

    In Christ,

    • Margot, thanks for your kind words. They are a blessing. The reason for the two letter abbreviations of each book of the Bible is this: should the Lord be pleased to allow a printed version of this devotional to become available, it is likely there will be very little room at the bottom of each page for the abbreviations, thus two letters instead of three.

If you click on the “Abbreviations” tab on the home page, you can see how they make sense. For example, Philemon comes before Philippians (alphabetically), so “Philemon” gets the “Ph” designation, while “Philippians” gets “Pi.”

However, knowing that this would be confusing, we’ve hyperlinked each verse to an on-line Bible. So, if you ever want to see any of the verses, just click on the reference and it should take you directly to the book, chapter, and verse.

I hope God’s word will continue to bless you.

I find when I seek the Word through these daily communications, my day is better. Today’s sharing was a blessing that seemed directed only to me. I often marvel how a message from our Lord can be specific to me and yet speak to so many at the same time. Grace, Ed
