Baobab: the newest ‘superfruit’

A new “superfruit” recently entered the U.S. market and is starting to show up in supplements, cereal bars, and drink powders. The fruit is called baobab. Its tangy fruit pulp has traditionally been used in foods in Africa. has just published a Baobab review article that discusses its uses and nutritional content – which includes a great deal of fiber.
According to the experts at the Natural Medicines Comprehensive Database, Baobab fruit and leaves are likely safe when use orally in food amounts. However, NMCD says, “there is insufficient reliable information about the safety of baobab when used for medicinal purposes.”
Furthermore, the NCMD says, “There is insufficient reliable information available about the effectiveness of baobab.”
