Family Update

Barb, Kate, and I were able to spend my favorite holiday of the year, Thanksgiving, with son Scott, his wife, Jennifer, and their girls.
Sarah Elisabeth, who was born premature at 35 weeks is doing incredibly well. And her older sister, Anna Kate, is growing like a weed. Our time with her was a joy for us. We were blessed to be together as a family and have much for which to be thankful.
I’m continuing to pour most of my free time into my first solo novel, tentatively titled, Hazel Creek. It’s a story about 5 sisters who are orphaned in the Smoky Mountain wilderness of western North Carolina in the 1920s. Barb and Kate are helping with writing ideas and edits. I hope to have the manuscript completed by January 15th. However, it’s not likely to see the book shops until early next 2011.
In the meantime, I’m editing two books that will be out in 2010.

  1. Workplace Grace: Becoming a spiritual influence at work is scheduled to be released by Zondervan in April 2010, and
  2. My second novel, coauthored with Paul McCusker, Time Scene Investigators: The Influenza Bomb is scheduled to be released by Howard Books and Simon & Schuster in June 2010. I think the cover is kinda cool:

We hope all is well with you and yours—and that your Christmas season will be blessed.

Publishing Updates

Lintball Leo: The book that thought it could

Lintball Leo’s Not-So-Stupid Questions About Your Body (a book for parents to read to their 8-12 year old boys) just keeps chugging along. ZonderKidz has notified us that the book is going into it’s 12th printing. I’m very pleased.

By the way, the book is on special this month. See the note above about our clearance sale.

Dr. Walt interviewed for Examiner Article on STDs in Teens

I was interviewed for an article, Report: Teen girls and minorities at highest risk for the two most common STDs, for The Examiner in an article published on November 18, 2009. You can read the article here.

Broadcast Update

Dr. Walt and Barb’s Focus on the Family Interview in the “Best of 2009”

As we announced last month, Dr. James Dobson’s interview with Barb and me on our book, “His Brain, Her Brain: How divinely designed differences can strengthen your marriage,” will be reaired on the Focus on the Family daily national radio program on December 16.

The program has been chosen for Focus on the Family’s “Best of 2009” series. We could not be more delighted and hope you will check it out.

On December 16th, you can listen to the program on the Internet, or find a station in your area playing the program, by clicking here.

Events of the last month

  • Nov 1-2: I was blessed to be able to teach residents and medical students at the In His Image in Tulsa.
  • Nov 4-5: Barb and I attended the Life Network Board meeting in Black Forest, CO. It’s exciting to see the way the Lord is moving in the midst of this ministry.
  • Nov 13-14: I was supposed to fly to Minneapolis to join my dear friend and co-author, Bill Peel, in presenting a “Going Public with Your Faith” Conference at Wooddale Church. However, at the last minute the event had to be canceled and is being rescheduled for February.
  • Nov 17: Barb and I celebrated our 36th wedding anniversary with a romantic dinner at a small restaurant in a neighboring mountain community. We were blessed to have the restaurant completely to ourselves. The service, food, and atmosphere were all wonderful.
  • Nov 19: I spoke at a Penrose Hospital Foundation social event on “His Brain, Her Brain, and Holiday Stress.” The event was packed, with standing-room-only, and was a fun-filled evening. I pray the attendees were as blessed as I was.
  • Nov 20: I was honored to be asked by best-selling author, Jerry B. Jenkins, to speak at his Master Writers Conference in Manitou Springs, CO. Jerry and I, along with Paul McCusker, Al Janssen, and Larry Weiden, are members of an author’s group that meets every couple of weeks at a local Barnes and Noble. We call ourselves the “St. Inklings” or “Stinklings,” somewhat after the author’s group attended by C. S. Lewis and J. R. Tolkein, called the “Inklings.” It was great fun and a terrific honor being able to speak to this group of aspiring authors.
  • Nov 19: Barb flew to Atlanta to be with Scott, Jennifer, Anna Kate, and Sarah Elisabeth. Her time there was “glorious.”
  • Nov 25-30: Kate and I flew to Atlanta to join in for a family Thanksgiving. Barb’s sister, Sue, and their parents, Jada and Tutta, came up to Atlanta to join us. Sue’s daughter, Laura, ran her first half-marathon on Thanksgiving. It was a joy to be together as a family.
  • Upcoming Events

  • Dec 9-15: Barb, Kate, and I will fly to Baton Rouge to be with family for a week. We’re looking forward to a restful and enjoyable family week.
  • Otherwise, we’ll be home for the Christmas season. We wish each of you a restful and wonderful Christmas.
