Pro-Life Groups Excited John McCain Picks Sarah Palin

LifeNews.com is reporting that leading pro-life groups are excited about the prospects of a pro-life woman serving as the nation’s vice president and they are applauding John McCain’s selection of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin as his running mate. Palin is strongly pro-life and rejected an abortion when pregnant with a disabled baby.
My Take?
I knew Governor Palin was the right choice when I heard Dr. James Dobson on Dennis Prager’s radio show, this morning, say that if he had to walk into the voting booth today, he’d  pull the lever for John McCain.
This is a remarkable change of mind for a man who thinking impacts millions of pro-life people – and who seldom changes his mind. I admire his candor and courage for publically discussing his reconsideration of John McCain.
According to LifeNews, quoting Marjorie Dannenfelser, the president of the Susan B. Anthony List, “Sarah Palin is the whole package. There couldn’t be a better vice presidential pick.”
“Women voters are electrified, and Sarah is someone who is truly in sync with the way real American women think,” Ms. Dannenfelser told LifeNews.com right after the selection. “She is a reform-minded woman who will give all Americans, born and unborn, the authentic leadership they deserve.”
In 2006, the Susan B. Anthony List Candidate Fund endorsed Palin for her in her race for governor.
Rev. Rob Schenck, an evangelical pro-life advocate who directs the National Clergy Council, also commented on the selection and said McCain made an excellent decision.
“Governor Palin is a committed and active Christian who takes her faith seriously and lives her pro-life and pro-family convictions,” he said. “She adds moral strength to the ticket. This will go a long way in building important and strategic bridges for the McCain campaign.”
Dannenfelser added that having Palin on the ticket will attract women voters and some of the Hillary Clinton supporters who aren’t happy with Barack Obama.
“The majority of American women support commonsense restrictions on abortion. Adding Palin to the GOP ticket will resonate with independent women voters nationwide,” Dannenfelser told LifeNews.com. “By choosing the boldly pro-life Sarah Palin as his running mate, John McCain has taken his stand as the one true, authentic pro-life ticket.”
Gary Bauer writes, “Sarah Palin is conservative. She is pro-family. She is pro-life.”
Gov. Palin recently had her fifth child, Trig, who was diagnosed in the womb with Down Syndrome. Her doctors advised her to have an abortion, but Palin refused. When Trig was born, Gov. Palin wrote:
“Trig is beautiful and already adored by us. We knew through early testing he would face special challenges and we feel privileged that God would entrust us with this gift and allow us unspeakable joy as he entered our lives. We have faith that every baby is created for good purposes and has potential to make this world a better place. We are truly blessed.”
As I’ve written in previous blogs, nearly 95% of mothers who find out that they are carrying an unborn child with Down’s Syndrome will abort the child. Not this remarkable woman!
Sarah Palin was elected governor of Alaska in November 2006 by taking on political corruption and vowing to reduce spending. More importantly, she has delivered on those campaign promises: Under her leadership, the legislature passed a major ethics reform bill, and she cut more than $200 million in state spending.
Described in one media report as a “strong social conservative and a staunch supporter of gun rights,” a poll in late July put her approval rating at a whopping 80%. Her oldest son, Track, joined the Army last year on the sixth anniversary of the September 11th attacks. Both the Republican presidential and vice presidential candidates currently have children serving in America’s Armed Forces.
Bauer writes, “There is no excuse now for any conservative, any “values voter,” any pro-life advocate to sit out this election or gripe about the choice. And, of course, Senator McCain’s historic selection of a pro-life, conservative woman to join the GOP ticket could fundamentally alter the course of this election. Thank you, Senator McCain!
“John McCain and Sarah Palin can beat the Obama/Biden ticket, but only if we enthusiastically rush to the front lines for what is guaranteed to be the most critical election in generations.
It’s going to be an exciting election, and I hope that you are as encouraged today as I am!
As Gary Bauer writes, “My friends, I believe we now have the most pro-life ticket in history, running on the most pro-life platform in history. I am very excited, and I hope you are too. So please get engaged right now!”
