2) The Copyediting is done on my WWII Book, At First Light

It’s not scheduled for release until April 2022, but At First Light, my book about my dad and his amazing exploits on the “forgotten” Southern Front in Europe, has just completed copyediting by the publisher. I received a very encouraging note from the editor I thought you’d enjoy seeing:

Journeying through life with Phil through your narrative exploration of his letters and other relevant material was gripping, so much so that—as you will see—I found myself so caught up in the story that I failed to leave much in the way of praise or commentary in the manuscript itself, so I must do so here:

It would be so easy for a tale with so much true horror and heartbreak to be a heavy, depressing experience, and to leave your reader saddened. What you have managed to achieve instead is a story that doesn’t shy away from the true facts of war but manages to deliver them in such a way that the result is ultimately hopeful, uplifting, and serves as a reminder that soldiers are ultimately people, not numbers.

I found myself hurrying onward whenever Phil was injured, sighing at his setbacks, and tearing up with joy at the horse auction! I hope that these are all things that you set out to achieve because I believe you’ve succeeded admirably.

 3) Answers to Last Month’s Prayers

  • August 7, Barb and I began another semester directing our church’s marriage ministry called ReEngage. On this Saturday we trained five leader couples and the training went exceptionally well.
  • August 11 was our ReEngage Kick-Off. The first of 18 straight weeks that these 20-25 couples will invest in their marriage. Everyone showed and the evening went without a hitch.
  • August 13, the production crew from LiftableTV was at our home for another all-day videotaping session of another four shows for my “Ask Dr. Walt” TV shows. You can learn more about the LiftableTV in item #1 above and sign up to see it free for one month here.

4) Prayer Requests for Upcoming Events

  • September 13, the production crew from LiftableTV will again be at our home for another all-day videotaping session of another four shows for my “Ask Dr. Walt” TV shows. You can learn more about LiftableTV and sign up to see the show here.
  • September 10-11, I’ll be attending the International Board Meeting of Morning Star Development, an NGO that ministers in Afghanistan and to Afghani refugees in many countries. Of course, all of the horrible recent events will directly impact our discussions which should be very intense. Prayers for wisdom will be much appreciated.
  • September 23, Barb and I fly to Cody, Wyoming, where I’ll speak at the annual fundraising banquet for the Serenity Pregnancy Resource Center. I LOVE supporting these amazing ministries.
  • September 24, we’ll stay in Cody, and I’ll share lunch, fellowship, and some teaching time with several Christian physicians.
  • September 24, Barb and will teach a “How to Have a Crazy Good Marriage” seminar at New Life Church on Friday evening.
  • September 25-28, we’ll take a few days of R&R to explore and enjoy Yellowstone National Park. We’ve not been back there in forty years!
