FDA advises against purchasing drinks sold as supplements for sexual enhancement

It seems that there are new warnings almost weekly from the FDA regarding potential dangers of certain over-the-counter natural medications (herbs, vitamins, or supplements). The reason is that these substances are virtually unregulated here in the United States and unscrupulous manufacturers constantly take advantage of this to make money at your expense.
Now the Los Angeles Times reports “The Food and Drug Administration … advised consumers not to buy or use two drinks sold as supplements for sexual enhancement,” Rock Hard Extreme and Passion Coffee.
The FDA warned, “Laboratory analysis indicated that both contain sulfoaildenafil, an active pharmaceutical ingredient that is similar to sildenafil,” and it “could interact with prescription medications that include nitrates.”
FDA Principal Deputy Commissioner Joshua Sharfstein added, “We want consumers to be aware that there are products masquerading as dietary supplements that pose significant dangers.”
Buyer beware when it comes to these drinks.

So what happens if these drugs interact with nitrates?

    • waltlarimore says:

The ED drugs should not be used by patients who are on ANY form of nitrate therapy (pill, spray, paste, or patch) as the combination of the two drugs has been shown to lower the blood pressure to a dangerous level.
