What’s the best diet for weight loss? Everyone has an opinion. What’s yours? I’ve tried several to no avail.

Your question is perfectly timed. An expert panel just ranked all of the most common diets. What’s the best? Drum roll please … they named the Mediterranean Diet and the DASH Diet as the best diets for 2018.
These two diets emphasize consuming lots of fruits and vegetables “as well as healthy fatty foods like fish, nuts, and olive oil.”
According to a CDC (Centers for Disease Prevention and Control) report from last fall, “the vast majority of Americans are not eating enough fruits and vegetables.” That study found that “an average 12% of Americans ate their daily recommended amount of fruit, while an average of less than 9% ate their daily recommended amount of vegetables.”
The diet ratings were published in U.S. News, which each year uses “a panel of food and health experts to rank 40 diets on a variety of measures” such as “the diet’s ability to help a person lose weight in the short and long term.”
What were the lowest ranking diets? The panel rated the Keto Diet and the Dukan Diet as tied for last place—as these plans may be harmful long-term.
Other “top contenders” in the “Easy-to-Follow category” included the Weight Watchers program and the Flexitarian Diet, “which is a flexible, mostly vegetarian approach to eating.”
