Where do you sit at the great debate—are you a splitter or not? Doctors and pharmacists often take different sides on whether or not splitting pills is safe. So, which side is right?
Well, here are the pros: The FDA just published a statement on splitting medication tablets, and they have approved a number of medications for splitting. Many prescriptions can be acquired at twice the strength for nearly the same cost, and then split in half to save a significant amount of money.
However, if it’s not done correctly or the wrong types of medications are split, the results can be dangerous. In addition, medicines in capsule form simply can’t be safely split.
Before you even think about splitting a medication tablet, you must talk to your doctor or pharmacist. But, with the right medications, cutting pills could cut your costs.
