Study: Sunlight may help lower blood pressure

On its website, NBC News reported that research published in the Journal of Investigative Dermatology indicated that “just 20 minutes of ultraviolet A (UVA) sunlight lowered blood pressure by a small but significant amount in 24 volunteers.”

AFP reports that the “researchers found exposure to sunlight alters the level of nitric oxide in the skin, dilating blood vessels and thus easing hypertension.”

HealthDay reports that “Avoiding sunlight or using sunblock constantly out of a fear of skin cancer could be a new risk factor for heart disease … said” lead researcher Martin Feelisch.
