It may be fun to play fetch with Fido, but if a day with your pet has left you out of breath lately, it could be Fido’s fault.
Exposure to furry pets can increase an adult’s risk of allergic diseases such as chronic cough, asthma, hay fever, hives, and dermatitis.
In a new study, doctors found a higher incidence of allergies in those who owned a furry pet—especially dogs. Adult allergies and asthma can be effectively treated, so if you have one of these problems, it’s not necessarily time to trade in Fido for the fish bowl.
But if you have a furry pet and have a chronic cough, wheeze when you breathe, cough a lot during or after exercise, or have hives or skin problems, talk to your doctor to make sure you don’t have a pet-related allergy problem.
