Encourage your kids to choose healthy snacks

Kids may crave chips and sweet treats, but parents should encourage their children to choose healthier options.

The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics offers these suggestions, which were in a report from HealthDay News:

  • Keep plenty of fresh, colorful fruits and vegetables in plain sight, where kids can grab them easily.
  • Stock up on dried fruits (low-sugar options) and dried chickpeas, peas and soybeans.
  • Stock your pantry with applesauce, fruits and beans that can be mixed with salsa, and veggies.
  • Create home-made frozen fruit bars and smoothies.
