Family Update

Those of you who have been long time friends and readers know that I’m typically on the road between 150 and 200 days a year.

And usually Barb tries to stay home as much as possible. She doesn’t like to travel, loves her home, enjoys her local bible study and volunteering at Mission Medical Clinic, and is very devoted to our adopted cat, Jack.

But this year has such proven to be atypical. So far, during the first ninety days of this year, Barb has been out of town 46 days, while I’ve only been gone 29. Needless to say, Jack and I are growing to be better friends.

Speaking of the church-sponsored clinic at which Barb and I serve, the Mission Medical Clinic in Colorado Springs, we heard a neat story we thought would make you smile. Here are the details from our Dental Coordinator, Joan Barnes:

The Dental Clinic has had a rather roller-coaster month, with some really busy times and some not-so much!

We received a huge shipment of X-ray film as a donation, and now will not have to purchase any for at least a year! This represents a substantial savings.

I wish all of you could have witnessed the elation we all felt recently while we watched Dr. Barreto placing a full set of dentures in a patient who had been totally without teeth for quite some time.

Tears of joy flowed, along with lots of happy smiles and hugs. She received her new smile just in time to welcome her son home from Iraq.

“O give thanks unto the Lord, for He is good…” Psalms 135:1

Publishing Update

1) Barb has Devotional Published

Barb and I have been guests on Moody’s Midday Connection a few times. The women that manage and host that show, Anita Lustrea, Melinda Schmidt, and Lori Neff have just published a devotional book, Tending the Soul: 90 days of spiritual nourishment. Contributors include Sara Groves, Margaret Feinberg, Jan Silvious, and many others … including none other than our own Barb Larimore.

The contributors are all women who have been guests on the show. Barb submitted three devotionals, but only one made the book. Here’s a sneak peak of pages 82-83:

“For in him we live and move and have our being.” Acts 17:28 (NIV)

Anna. Blonde, wispy hair. Bright blue eyes. Thirty-six inches tall; twenty-eight pounds, thirty months old. Daughter. Big sister. My first grandchild and the apple of her daddy’s eye. Sugar and spice and everything nice. I love holding her, reading to her, hugging her, walking with her, caring for her, feeding her, praying with her, and putting her to bed. And, this week, I loved being on vacation with her—as God used her to teach me a powerful lesson.

It occurred after I heard little Anna say, time after time, things such as: “Daddy carry me,” “Daddy do it,” “Daddy fix it,” “Where’s Daddy?” Followed by, “I want my daddy!” The latter would occur whenever she had a stumble accompanied by an abrasion or a bump or a bruise.

This was the epiphany I had through Anna: Isn’t this the way God wants us to live?

Anna lives in total dependence upon her stay-at-home daddy. He gladly meets her every need. He is her provider and protector. He knows the nuances of her voice and she knows his.

Her father, her abba, skillfully guides her through her daily schedule, from early morning until bedtime, giving her food, drink, rest, and play time.

Her daddy would go to the ends of the earth for this little girl.

And so would our heavenly Father, our Abba, and our heavenly Daddy—for you and for me.

Father, help me to live, move and have my very being in total dependence upon you daily.

2) A new Significant Living article

My most recent article for Significant Living magazine is now in print. It’s titled, A Prescription for Your Emotions: 8 ways to pump yourself up when you feel deflated. You can read the digital edition here.

3) Another print run of His Brain, Her Brain

Barb and I were pleased to learn that the book we co-wrote, His Brain, Her Brain: How divinely designed differences can strengthen your marriage, is in it’s 9th printing here in the U.S. We continue to receive good feedback about the book and are pleased that so many marriages have been helped by it. You can order a signed copies here.

4) Another printing of Alternative Medicine

I was happy to be notified that my revised and updated book, Alternative Medicine: The options, the claims, the evidence, how to choose wisely is in it’s 4th printing. By the way, if you want a signed copy of one of my books, you can order them here.

All of my other books can be ordered here.
