Kmart expands generic drug program

Reuters is reporting that Kmart is cutting prices and expanding its generic prescription drug program to include more than 500 common medications as of June 22.

My Take?

This is part of a continuing good news story. For many of my patients, the Target, Wal-Mart, or Kmart drugs covered under these programs are less expensive than their insurance co-pay.

I, for one, am cheering these corporations for this – which will allow many patients to obtain nearly 1000 generic treatments for $4 - $5 for a 30-day prescription or $10 for a three-month supply.

Now, if we could just get doctors and hospitals to do the same.
