Vaccine Myth #7: Vaccines Weaken the Immune System

Children's Health, Parenting
Natural infection with certain viruses can weaken the immune system. So when children are infected with one virus, they can’t fight off other viruses or bacteria as easily. This happens most notably during natural infection with chicken pox or measles. Children infected with chicken pox are susceptible to certain bacterial infections (MRSA or flesh-eating bacteria, for example). Children infected with measles are more susceptible to bacterial infections (resulting in sepsis) of the bloodstream. But vaccines are different. Are chimps persons? Do plants have human dignity? Soon, they might!

Bioethics
A couple of amazing bioethics stories caught my attention this Memorial Day weekend -- a holiday in which we celebrate and honor the sacrifice of incredibly brave men and women who fought across Europe and the Pacific for our freedom and liberty.  Now there are those fighting for freedom and liberty for animals and even plants. Count this blog in the "you-won't-believe-this" category. (more…)

Remembering my Dad on Memorial Day

Marriage and Family Health
It wasn’t until after his death, in 2003, that my brothers and I learned of our father’s bravery and courage in World War II. Philip B. "Larry" Larimore, Jr., fought in Italy, France, and Germany, before losing his leg – and almost his life. Awarded three Purple Hearts, two Bronze Stars, two Silver Stars, and the Distinguished Service Cross, he ended his service as the Executive Officer for the Honor Garrison at Arlington Cemetery and Ft. Myers. I remember the admiration my dad had for President Ronald Reagan and how much my dad appreciated a speech the President delivered at Pointe du Hoc, France, where U.S. Rangers fought an incredible battle to reclaim Europe from the evil of fascism. Tragedy in the Stephen Curtis Chapman Family

Marriage and Family Health, Parenting
By now, I suspect most of you have read or heard about the incredibly painful and tragic news in what was meant to be a celebratory week for the family of Christian musician Stephen Curtis Chapman.  According to Jim Houser, Stephen’s Manager, “Just hours before this close knit family was celebrating the engagement of the oldest daughter Emily Chapman, and were just hours away from a graduation party marking Caleb Chapman’s completion of high school. Now, they are preparing to bury a child who blew out 5 candles on a birthday cake less than 10 days ago …” (more…)

Please let me know if you like this type of entry or not. Your feedback will be very helpful to me. HAS PARLIAMENT IN BRITAN GONE CRAZY? Earlier this week, the British Parliament voted on an amendment to allow the creation of animal-human for experimentation.
