Sugar-free gum has NO effect on losing weight

Drats, I was hoping that studies would show that sugar-free gum helped in weight loss. But, the Los Angeles Times “Booster Shots” blog reports that according to a study published online in Obesity, researchers found “chewing gum daily may have no effect on losing weight.”

The study had “201 overweight or obese adults, about half of whom were randomly put in an intervention group and told to chew gum daily for at least 90 minutes at specific times throughout the day.”

The other half, the control group, “did not chew gum.”

At the end of the eight week study period, there was “no significant changes in weight or body mass index in either group.”

Oh well …
