My Patients Ask — Should we just wait for herd immunity rather than take the COVID vaccine?

No. Typically, herd immunity is achieved when you have 70 to 90 percent of a population immune through natural infection or vaccination.

Waiting for the natural infection to give this level of herd immunity will lead to unimaginable preventable death and disability.

Thank the Lord, however, current projections indicate that all Americans who desire the vaccine will have it by the summer of 2021.

We’ll have to wait and see if and when booster shots will be recommended.
